i. Traffic and Transport
Jiangsu province has well-established infrastructures. It has convenient traffic and transport facilities and it also set up a whole and dimensional traffic and transportation network with a big capacity. It is the traffic hinge in east part of China.
Jiangsu province has a very developed air transport industry. It has now 7 airports with 186 airlines and the passenger throughput of over 10.6 million, increasing by 30%, and No. 1 in the east part of China in terms of the growth rate. Until 2010, the total airport passenger throughput of the province will reach 20 million and the mail freight will reach 600,000 tons. The Jiangsu aviation industry has been into a highly development period.
Jiangsu province has the national first-rate highways and driving conditions. As of the end of 2007, the highway traffic mileage of Jiangsu was 133,700 km and the density of the highway mileage reaches 130.3 km per 100 square kilometer. The density of the expressway mileage in Jiangsu is 3.47 km per 100 square kilometer, No. 1 in China. The railway operation mileage of Jiangsu is 1606.9 km. The extension length of the railway main lines reaches 2311.8 km. Nanjing and Xuzhou are two key railway hinges of China. Ports, sea-routes and passenger and freight stations have all good facilities in Jiangsu. It also has an inland watercourse with the total length of 24,800 km, 1/5 of China. Its mileage and density rank as No. 1 in China. Jiangsu owns the Port of Nanjing, top 1 inland water port of China and Lianyun Port, one of China's top 8 ports. The annual comprehensive capacity of the whole provincial ports is designed as 0.916 billion tons, and 286 dock berths have capacities of over 10,000 tons.
ii. Communications
The communication network of Jiangsu has good facilities and owns modern communication system. The post industry remains fast development. Businesses like the fixed phone, mobile phone users, internet users and EMS maintain rapid growth. There are total 65 million phone users with the phone coverage rate of 86.5%. The internet users are 6.72 million. In recent years, Jiangsu telecom has been engaged in shaping wireless broadband urban user community, taking key cities as cores like Nanjing. At present, Jiangsu telecom has arranged to set up over 8000 wireless broadband meet accesses in the province, covering an area of 4.22 million m2. In the following three years, Jiangsu province will cover all hot spots with wireless broadband.
At present, Jiangsu province is building 8 digital broadbands of 155 megabit directly connecting with International Network Communication Gateway. It will be where CNC and China Telecom meet their internet systems. This helps Jiangsu to build the national first-rate internet application environment and communication insurance service system, providing the well-established information infrastructure for the development of software and information service industry. The exclusive international communication channel will connect software parks in Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou etc, which is also the channel that has the most extensive coverage among all international communication channels of China.
Well-established infrastructures like traffic and transport, hydropower, electric power, telecom and broadband guarantee the development of Jiangsu software and information service outsourcing industry.
